Online in Ontario

Kawartha Downs visitors and online rules

The slots at Kawartha Downs are a place you drive to, out on County Road 28 in Fraserville. Playing online in Ontario follows different rules, and this page explains them in plain language.

Which online sites are legal in Ontario

Since April 4, 2022, the online gaming market in Ontario has operated under regulation. A private online casino is legal there only with two things: registration at the AGCO and a signed iGaming Ontario operating agreement. Every site that satisfies both appears in the directory at igamingontario.ca, which is useful for checking a name beforehand. OLG.ca stands apart: OLG, the province's own agency, runs it as its online casino.

Two rules apply to you as the player. The minimum age is 19, matching what Ontario law sets for casinos and slot facilities. You must also be physically inside Ontario when you play, since regulated sites only accept bets from people in the province.

Taking a break, online or in person

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is run by iGaming Ontario. With a single request there, a person is blocked from all of Ontario's regulated online sites at once, OLG.ca too. The block lasts 1 year, 5 years, 6 months or whatever length the person chooses. It has no effect at a casino you walk into.

For those, OLG has My PlayBreak, which covers every casino in Ontario for a break of 1 to 5 years, or of 3 or 6 months. The term cannot be shortened once it starts. Arranging it means calling the OLG Support Centre on 1-800-387-0098, asking staff on site, or visiting a PlaySmart Centre.

Where this guide's money comes from

Paid links on Out to the Downs live on the home page alone, and each carries an Ad label. There are three of them: a header button, a block following the first tool and a block down by the bottom of the page. Whichever of the three is clicked, one privately owned online casino opens; that partner may change and gives the guide a commission.

That partner is not OLG.ca, and it is unconnected to any help service, the AGCO, iGaming Ontario, OLG, Great Canadian, the track or the slots.

Questions

Quick answers

Short answers from the checked facts. Tap a question to open it.

How do you check whether an online casino in Ontario is regulated?

Search the directory at igamingontario.ca for its name. In Ontario, a private site is legal only if it holds AGCO registration as well as an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. OLG, the province's own agency, runs OLG.ca.

Can you play online from a cottage in the Kawarthas?

Yes, provided you are at least 19 and physically inside Ontario while you play. Regulated Ontario sites take bets only from people inside the province.

Does a My PlayBreak term stop online play too?

My PlayBreak covers casinos you walk into. For every regulated online site in Ontario, OLG.ca included, the tool is BetGuard.

Does Kawartha Downs have its own online casino?

The slots at the track are played in person at 1382 County Road 28. For online play, OLG.ca is the province's own site. The partner behind the Ad links on the guide's home page is private and has no tie to the track or the slots.
